Professional History

From 2019 to 2024, I worked on Black Desert Mobile by Pearl Abyss as a Writer and Narrative Designer. Initially, our translation team got approval to localize the text in a natural way, matching the sense of the source text and not just the words. This allowed me the creative freedom to create individual character profiles based on social status, location and personality. Positive reception to our work among the fan base post-launch also garnered the company's support to modify the text further for key characters, most notably the Black Spirit, the player's companion. With this I was able to provide completely unique personalities to characters while maintaining key information.  You will find various representative writing styles below.

01

Spoken Text

With flair, colloquialisms, and careful consideration of a character's background, I can help make your characters feel real and relatable.

02

Short Fiction

As most games are replete with extra lore to flesh out a game world, I can write personal accounts, historical documents, and other forms of writing to make your game feel like it naturally evolved with substantial history.

03

Characterization

Whether it be a dignitary, a short story of the past, or your spiritual ally bent on comic relief, I can help you fully realize a holistic vision of your game world.

04

Unified Game Terminology

As I have worked with text databases of over 2 million words, I learned firsthand the importance of consistency in terminology, and keep it at the forefront of my work. I regularly evaluate new terms and compare them against existing terms for thematic consistency and perform intermittent checks on both high and low-priority text types to ensure your game's terminology is consistent.
